Over the past few days, soldiers from the Etzion Regional Brigade busily prepared for the storm that dropped inches of snow across Israel. Despite their thorough preparation, there are times when sudden events can disrupt their readiness.
On Wednesday, January 7, 2014, late in the evening, IDF forces received a report that a resident of Haris Village was stuck in his vehicle near Halhul, north of Hebron. The Palestinian man’s car got stuck in the snow while he was on his way home from visiting his brother in the area of Mount Hebron.
The Palestinian man was caught in the storm for hours as it continued to precipitate and temperatures dropped. The Etzion Regional Division Commander, Colonel Amit Yamin, rescued the man, released his car, and provided him with heating packs to keep him warm.
The man was grateful for the IDF’s service and the unit brought him to a sheltered location so he could make it home safely. The IDF worked rigorously during the storm to help many civilians such as this man stranded in his car.
The IDF’s soldiers will continue to work day and night to assist anyone in need. They are committed to working in conjunction with civilians to clear the roads so that people can return to their everyday lives.
